Here at Villa Regale luxury apartments, we’re just as excited as you are for summer. Once again, it’s that time of the year when many of us get a bit of a breather from all of the hustle and bustle of our regular routines.
This often means summer vacations away from home—or apartment, for that matter. And while visions of R&R float through your head, there’s definitely a few things that you should consider in order to prepare your apartment for a summer vacation.
So whether it’s a week-long getaway to our beautiful local beaches, or an amazing adventure halfway around the world, keep in mind the following nine smashing tips from Villa Regale luxury apartments in North McAllen.
#1: Locks.
This should come as common sense, but it’s an easy one to forget when in the midst of excitement and eagerness to get your vacation underway. Besides just locking your front door, you should make sure kitchen and bathroom windows, balcony doors, and other entry-points are secured and locked.
#2: Don’t forget the important stuff (like bills).
Besides just prepping your apartment for vacation, you’ll want to have all your other priorities sorted out as well. Use autopay for important bills or just make your payments before you leave. Either way, you don’t want to be hundreds of miles away before realizing you forgot to pay rent.
#3: Clean up before you leave.
After an absolutely fantastic and memorable summer vacation, the last thing you’ll want to come home to is a messy apartment. Make your return even more pleasant by cleaning up your apartment before you leave. This means doing dishes, vacuuming, finishing up laundry, and most importantly—throwing out the trash and recycling.
Do you really want to come back to a stinky apartment because of trash left in the bin for days or weeks?(Plus, by doing this, you avoid insect issues.)
#4: Unplug those electronics.
Electronic appliances and items use up energy when plugged in, even if they’re not actually being used. Items like toasters, coffeemakers, televisions, computers, sound systems, video game machines, and the likes will continue to consume energy even while you’re gone on vacation. Eliminate energy waste, save money, and protect yourself from potential power surges by unplugging all those items that don’t need to be left on.
#5: Take precautions with your car.
If you are planning on leaving your car parked at your apartment when going on vacation, take the necessary steps to protect it. If possible, find a nice shady area to park under. You should also remove all valuables in the car out of sight. Don’t forget to use a sunshade to keep all that heat and sunlight from damaging your upholstery.
#6: Recruit a house sitter for mail and pets.
If possible, recruit a family member or friend to help keep your apartment and things in order while you are away—especially for your furry roommate. Leave plenty of food and instructions behind for your pet to be well taken care of (or consider leaving them at a “doggy daycare”).
As for your mail, have someone pick it up for you once every few days, so that it doesn’t start to pile up and make things look like no one is home.
If you live in an area without friends or family, then consider hiring a professional house-sitter to come by every couple of days to make sure your apartment is taken care of. They can help to protect your apartment.
#7: Set your thermostat at the right temperature.
Summer temperatures can easily reach the hundreds here in the Rio Grande Valley and McAllen metro area. Because of this, you’ll want to set your thermostat at around 75–78 degrees, which will keep things relatively cool without unnecessarily boosting your electricity bill.
You should also make it a priority to shut your blinds adequately. This will keep unwanted visitors from peering in and help to keep the sun (and heat) out.
#8: Avoid social media if possible.
Social media can be an awesome tool during summer vacations. They allow us to stay in contact with friends and family while gone, and share those amazing moments with them also. But, unfortunately, social media has also become a tool for criminals and thieves.
By oversharing your vacation details, like the days and times you’ll be away, you might unknowingly be inviting some undesirable guests over.
If you can, hold off sharing trips details, pictures, and posts until after the vacation.
#9: Let management know you’ll be gone.
At Villa Regale luxury apartments, we want to make sure all of our residents feel safe and protected when living in our amazing apartment homes. By notifying us of your vacation and absence, we can work more effectively in identifying potential security threats, maintenance issues, maintain your mail, and respond quicker in emergency cases.
